The Original Hempcone Speakers

Tone Tubby speakers are the new sustainable standard for natural sound tonality and cone dependability. A luxury sound based on hard working technology. Tone Tubby delivers a consistently sweeter sound that many professional musicians rely on to optimize their recording sessions and live performances. From large amphitheater stage settings to intimate nightclub gatherings, you may have already experienced the Tone Tubby sound!

Made from natural and organic hemp fibers, Tone Tubby offers a rich and smooth sound unheard of from paper cone speakers. The cones are more durable with a heat and tear resistance unlike paper speakers. Cones made from hemp not only sound good, they are good for the environment. Using a renewable resource means fewer trees used for paper, more jobs and a more sustainable future.
In 1974 John Harrison moved to California from Atlanta, Georgia. He set up a rehearsal space for his band in San Rafael, just north of San Francisco, where he also repaired and maintained the equipment. Reconing speakers was a specialty, and his shop, A Brown Soun, became known as the ultimate boutique speaker recone and reconditioning shop. From 1974 to 2000, A Brown Soun repaired, rebuilt, and customized speakers for Neil Young, the Grateful Dead, Carlos Santana, Metallica, Tom Waits, and many others.

John Harrison has always felt that he perceives sound as colors. His favorite guitar tone comes from a 1959 Les Paul through a full-cranked Marshall stack, a sound which he described as "brown." The phrase "brown sound" is commonly attributed to Eddie Van Halen, but it should be noted that A Brown Soun was in business while Eddie was still in high school. Still, it is interesting to note that these guys perceive a "brown" quality to this certain type of tone.
John began designing and building his own speakers. Experimenting with different cone materials, he discovered that the superior strength and resilience of hemp fiber had a dramatic effect on tone quality. In 2000 he officially created HempconeSpeaker Technology®, and built the first Tone Tubby. John brought the prototype to Carlos Santana, who then and there became the first customer.

A Brown Soun provides authorized warranty speaker repair for Yamaha, Eden, Mesa Boogie, Community, Tannoy, Infinity, JBL, TIC, EM Audio, Cerwin-Vega.

We can also recone your old speakers with our patented Hempcones. Just wait till you hear those polished high ends, tight lows, and smoking mids! A Brown Soun can recondition and recone any type of speaker... guitar, bass, PA, studio monitors, home stereo, and more.
